Yet again, evening tv is un-tempting, with a choice between killer whales murdering a minke (frozen planet), and the spectacle of WEstern european democracy being dismantled (the news). I went and sorted out the laundry mountain instead so that was a good outcome, we’ve been unable to use the downstairs hall for several days due to mounting pile of clean clothes. This morning I couldn’t leave the house until I’d scrabbled through the whole massive pile to find a pair of pop socks.
It turned out the office air con has been off for a couple of days which explains why we were all suffocating. We were allowed to open the windows and I felt a bit delirious due to excessive oxygen to the brain.
We watched a bit of junior bakeoff after dinner- I’m not sure Rose really understood the competitive thing though which is good. What a weird idea getting children to be in a knock out tv show, they should just be encouraged to keep making the bonkers cakes, not to embark on a tv journey. Rose’s cooking skills are quite good when she can focus – the other day she actually helped me make some turkey fingers (middle class version of twizzlers). She turned the meat over in the crumbs and put them neatly on a plate, no collapsing off her stool. She did lick her fingers despite me screaming ‘noooooooo’ but seems to be ok despite the raw egg and poultry germs.
Sylvia is quite fighty now, last night I had to separate her from Rose in a punch-out on the landing. I guess sibling rivalry is par for the course but I want them to grow up being reasonably nice to each other. How do I make them do that?
